Cecilia van der Merwe

Since I was 5 I wanted to be an astronaut, and this led me to study mechanical engineering at the University of Pretoria.
After graduating I worked for about two and a half years at IST Nuclear (which later became Westinghouse Electric South Africa) where I was one of the engineers working on the design of the PBMR Fuel Handling and Storage System.
In October 2009 I joined the South African SKA Project, doing many things, but mainly responsible for designing the electricity supply network for the SKA telescope.
When I'm not working I enjoy going out with friends to do stuff - from having a braai to going out to concerts or sports games. I enjoy good red wine and my favorite beer is Kilkenny. The nerdiest thing about me is that I collect stamps.
